Audit Summary

This is a report prepared and issued by the Chief Accountant summarizing the findings and recommendations made upon the conclusion of an audit conducted by FERC of the books and records of a utility or company for a specified time period.

Environmental Report

This report is prepared by a FERC program office to assess the impact of a proposed natural gas pipeline or the construction of related facilities.  An environmental report assesses the planning and schedule of activities that may affect the quality of the environment.

Environmental Assessment (EA) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)

The environmental assessment is a document prepared in response to an application or activity when it has been determined that a comprehensive environmental impact study is not required for compliance with environmental standards set by statutes.  A FERC office normally prepares the assessment; the study may originate with FERC or another federal agency in instances of shared environmental jurisdiction.

Compliance Audit Summary

This is a report prepared by the Division of Project Compliance and Administration summarizing the findings and recommendations reached upon conclusion of a review of the operation of a licensed or exempted hydropower project.  This is also an evaluation of the compliance with the terms and conditions specified in the project license or exemption.  The compliance audit summary is an internal working document for the purpose of guidance and assistance to OHL and is a non-public document.

Construction Inspection Report

This is a series of sequentially numbered reports prepared by the regional office engineer who conducted a periodic field inspection of a licensed or exempted hydropower project.  The formatted report combines text describing the inspection, engineering data, and photographs.  Construction inspection reports range from the initial report to a final report, with varying interim numbered reports, depending on the length and scale of construction.  The report specifies the time period covered by the report, the dates of inspection, climatic conditions, and other relevant factors.  This report is normally a public document.

EPUI and Public Safety Report

This is a periodic report prepared by the engineering and environmental staff of the FERC regional office that has jurisdiction over the inspected hydropower project.  The report summarizes findings and recommendations reached upon conclusion of a field investigation of project compliance with the environmental and recreational terms and conditions of the license or exemption and with relevant statutes and regulations.  The formatted report combines text describing the inspection and photographs.  The report specifies the time period covered by the report, the dates of inspection, climatic conditions, and other relevant factors.  This report is normally a public document.

Operations Report

This is a periodic report prepared by the regional office engineer who conducted a field inspection of the operation of a licensed or exempted hydropower project.  The formatted report combines text describing the inspection, observations, technical and engineering data on hydropower generation, stress analysis, other safety factors, and photographs.  The report specifies the time period, the dates of inspection, climatic conditions, and other relevant factors.  This report is normally a public document.

Pre-license or Pre-exemption Inspection Report

This is a report prepared by the technical staff of the FERC regional office that has jurisdiction over the inspected hydropower project.  The report summarizes the findings and recommendations reached upon conclusion of a field investigation.  A pre-license inspection may be conducted for numerous reasons, such as the common complaint that the license applicant has undertaken construction activities at the project site prior to issuance of a license.  The formatted report combines text describing the inspection, observations and photographs.  The report specifies the time period covered by the report, the dates of inspection, climatic conditions, and other relevant factors, such as additional participants.  This report normally is a non-public document.

Safety and Design Assessment

This report is prepared by the Division of Project Review prior to the issuance of a license or exemption from licensing of a hydropower project.  The report summarizes the findings and recommendations reached upon conclusion of a review of the design, specifications, technical and engineering data, project economies and other materials related to the project.  The final safety and design assessment is a public document.  Preliminary assessments are non-public documents.

Special Inspection Report

This is a report prepared by the technical staff of the FERC regional office that has jurisdiction over the inspected hydropower project, from a division within OHL, or from both.  The report summarizes the findings and recommendations reached upon conclusion of a field investigation, which is usually unscheduled and unannounced and frequently is conducted in response to a complaint or allegations of license violations.   The formatted report combines text describing the inspection, observations and photographs.  The report specifies the dates of inspection, climatic conditions, and other relevant factors, such as additional participants.  This report normally is a non-public document.

Other FERC Report/Study

This is a document prepared by Commission staff or by a consultant under contract with FERC and issued by the Commission on a topic or subject matter other than environmental impact or energy regulatory policy.

Policy Study

This is a study or report identifying a policy issue, with description, analyses, and recommendations on a subject or topic related to energy regulation.
