Correspondence Concerning Filing Fees and Annual Charges

These documents are a subsequent submittal by an electric utility related to a filing fee assessed by FERC as a requirement of an application.  Common examples of such correspondence are requests for waiver of fees for reasons of economic hardship, or payment of the requested fee/charges.

Deficiency Letter/Data Response

This is a subsequent filing by an electric utility providing additional information or documentation to supplement a pending application.  The document is submitted in response to notification by FERC that the initial filing was deficient; specifically, it responds to the listing of requirements not fulfilled adequately by previous submittals.  The list of deficiencies and the response are referenced usually as Schedule A.

Response to Inquiry

This is a submittal by an electric utility in response to an inquiry or request for information by FERC of a general nature, as distinct from responses to specific deficiency letters and requests for additional information to supplement pending applications, and as distinct from required periodic reports submitted as specific FERC forms (e.g.  Form 1, Form 566, etc.).  Because of the broad scope and general nature of such inquiries, the responses usually are not designated to a specific docket.  Responses to a notice of proposed rulemaking are not included within this category.

Request for Delay of Action/Extension of Time

This is a subsequent filing by an electric utility or its agent requesting that the Commission delay acting upon a pending application or compliance filing until a future date, usually specified, beyond the scheduled date for Commission action.  Such a request for postponement may be based on numerous reasons or in response to various circumstances; as a common example, the delay may be requested to facilitate settlement negotiations that might be adversely affected by premature Commission action and which would limit the need for action by the Commission to resolve the matter.

A Request for Extension of Time is a subsequent filing by an electric utility or its agent requesting that FERC extend the specified time period in which an application process or compliance action must be completed, such as providing a response to a deficiency letter.  Such a request usually specifies a fixed number of days for the requested extension or proposes a new due date.

Supplemental/Additional Information

This is a subsequent filing by an electric utility providing additional information or documentation to supplement a pending application in response to notification by FERC that such supplemental materials are necessary for evaluation of the application.  Such a submittal provides information beyond that required to correct deficiencies of previous filings.  The request for additional information or supplemental materials and the response are referenced usually as Schedule B.  However, if no deficiencies were identified as Schedule A, the request for additional information and response may be referenced as Schedule A rather than the usual reference as Schedule B.

Withdrawal of Application

This is a subsequent filing by an electric utility or its agent requesting authorization by FERC to withdraw a pending application prior to final Commission action.  A utility may seek permission to withdraw an application for numerous reasons; as a common example, a utility may seek to withdraw an application because it is filing concurrently or anticipates future submittal of an application that is largely duplicative of a revision of the withdrawn application.

General Correspondence

This is a submittal by an electric utility for informational purposes and not as compliance with FERC requirements, directives, or inquiries.  Such correspondence is submitted at the discretion of the utility; for example, a utility may routinely forward a courtesy copy to FERC of a document prepared for another federal/state agency when the subject matter is relevant to FERC's regulatory jurisdiction.
